Mom is going to be in procedure land for the next few hours. So we were effectively removed from her room. They will do the trache first, and then the PEG (feeding) tube afterwards. The physicians performing the procedures do these all the time, and are very comfortable with them. Instead of carting her down to the operating room, they will be able to do them at the bedside using guided scopes.
The size and location of the trache will be small and discreet. She should have minimal scarring from the insertion site.
There is a part of us that believes Mom is waiting to wake up more until after all the tubes are pulled from her mouth. It will be a whole new woman that we view this evening!
I will update post-procedure this evening when I get back into see her. She gave us a big thumbs up right before we said goodbye. :)
