Man, she's had a rough day. It didn't take too long for all the procedures to be done, but she looked exhausted afterwards. The trache is in. Obviously it looks better than having the tubes in her mouth. Her mouth has been held open for the last 2 weeks, so she still seems to be getting used to being able to close it and swallow. The feeding tube into her stomach was also placed, they haven't started the feeding again but will later tonight. Our goal was just to make her comfortable for the rest of the night. They turned the ventilator back on to assist, so she would not have to work hard to take breaths. They also had to put air in her stomach to guide the scope into the stomach. So her poor belly looks pretty bloated. To top it all of she caught a nasty hospital bug that means we have to "gown and glove up" when we go in there. Its NOT MRSA (which I'm sure you have heard on the news) but an intestinal bug. All the more reason that we need to be extra careful when we go into visit her that we need to wash our hands!!!!
Hopefully she'll have a quiet restful night after her very long long day.
