With only a week to go, you can tell the therapists have fallen in love with Mom, as they are sad to get her ready to go. She will be discharged next week, and just in the last few days her improvements have been amazing. Although she still has good days and bad/tired days, she pushes herself, and finds a compromise.
Today she was doing her best to chat, as she did last night. For the most part she achieved that goal. She was most expressive in her directions. She let us know when she'd like to be put back to bed, or shifted to one side, or if we were not going fast enough. At the end of the day when she had obviously had enough of the staff taking (and us) their time to transfer her, she said "LET'S GO" and made the appropriate hand signal waving them on. It would have been funny, if she had not looked so miserable.
She has improved leaps and bounds with her strength- she can lift her arm off the bed (against gravity) to almost reach your hand about 1 foot above. She can also kick out her legs, and move her feet in small circles. If you had seen her just a few weeks ago, this would be a dramatic change. She has gone from a max assist with arm/leg workouts, to minimum assist. She must be inspired, because she wants to go home so bad. :)
What Dayton was referring to with the Botox last night, just to clarify, she got a little "lift" in her jaw....helping to relax some of those muscles making it easier to chat with her visitors.
Be prepared Yakima- she is one demanding woman, and not afraid to tell you when you are doing something that is bugging her, but its well worth it to hear her voice. We are sending her to your care, hoping you will continue all the positive improvements she has made in the last 6 weeks!
PS FANTASTIC FUNDRAISING- Huge thanks to all those who are contributing, and working hard at fundraising! We told Mom the total, and her eyes bugged out in surprise. When I told her it was because she has touched so many people's lives, that they want to help in whatever way they can, she got all teary. Yup, thats my Mom.

Awesome post. Great to hear things progressing so well as we begin the trip back to Yakima in a few days. The Seattle crew has done an amazing job keeping everyone updated and providing her with full support as she made leaps and bounds at the U. Back to the caring hands of Yakima's best, home for the holidays.
