One for the Good Guys!

I'm back! It was wonderful having Caitlin here for the week of MaryEleanor's surgery. She was great company and an even better advocate for ME during her hospital stay. She and Dayton were a tremendous help not only with the transition home, but also with multiple projects around the house.

MaryEleanor was recasted this past Tuesday. Her physician wanted to inspect the incision. Overall it's healing well but there is one area where her skin has blistered due to the manipulations he performed to get ME's ankle back to neutral. We make another visit next week for the same reason. By the way, in recognition of a Husky comeback this year in football, ME is sporting a purple cast.

As most of you know, I have been working the appeal process with ME's insurance company. The goal has been to convince them that the additional three weeks ME stayed at the U was justified and should be covered. The process to accomplish this has been brutally long.

Yesterday, ME and I had our day in court. We were invited to participate in a conference call with a panel of insurance company personnel, including a medical director. Once introductions were made, the floor was turned over to me to make our case. For the next twenty minutes or so, I laid out all of the events leading up to MaryEleanor qualifying to be admitted to the U, the gains she made while there and the further gains she has made as a result of being there for seven weeks.

Once finished, we were told to expect a letter with their decision with five business days. Within fifteen minutes of the conference call ending, I had a phone call from the facilitator. The panel quickly decided that ME's insurance would cover her extended stay! We won!

Needless to say, a huge load is now history! MaryEleanor reaction was "once in a while, nice things happen to good people".

I do believe a little bubbly is in our immediate future!
