Nine Months

Wow! It's May 2nd! This year is just flying by.

MaryEleanor has come a long way from that fateful day in August. She is totally focused on continuing to recover and getting on with life. Her therapists continue to see changes week over week. Friends who come to visit make similar comments.

The major physical issue continues to be her ability to walk. The nature of her brain injury caused muscles in her legs to "fire" in only one direction. She is a perfect ballerina. Her doctors say the only way to solve the problem is surgery. We say "not so fast". A new exercise therapist started working with ME a couple of weeks ago. He subscribes to a regimen that is unique and firmly believes he can improve the odds of walking without surgery.

MaryEleanor's new chair arrived yesterday. With it's factory standard wheels, it weighs in at 13 pounds. It will soon be fitted with wheels that have a motor built in the hubs that will allow ME to cruise with minimal effort. My plan is to take her to a school parking lot and "teach her how to drive".

MaryEleanor is eating more than she is "fed". We went over to our friends, the Browns, for dinner this week. I've ordered a short, portable ramp so we can share nice afternoons on our patio. ME's stamina is increasing, allowing her to spend more time doing things she enjoys.

We still have a long way to go but looking back nine months, we've come a helluva long way!

Happy May everyone!

ps My posts are more sporadic and I apologize for inconsistency. However, ME is spending more time on her laptop and would really enjoy reading any comments to her posts. We enjoy hearing from you!
