Memorial Day

A sharp salute to all of you members, past and present, of the armed forces. Every day is your day, today is just a bit more special. Our flag's been flyin' since Saturday.

I should be working on a stack of paper right now but MaryEleanor instructed me to take a break from reality and bring you all up to date. Last weekend ME informed me that she was experiencing headaches. On the pain scale of 1 to 10, they were averaging 4 to 5. The location of the headache was the area where her tumor was. She had yet to have a headache since last August so needless to say, I got a bit concerned. I rattled the phone tree of a few physicians and a couple of nurses and by Monday we had ME back at the hospital for a CT scan. The read came back clear on Tuesday and remarkably, the headaches have also vanished.

Therapies filled the remainder of the week. As I have mentioned many times, ME's therapists continue to be impressed with her progress, week over week. I was home with ME on Thursday and helped with a couple of sessions. We have been standing ME up during PT, three times for about a minute each time. We arrange some lumber to support her feet. It's really starting to work as we can get a good 50 pounds transferring down through her feet, without any pain. Her right Achilles tendon is beginning to stretch ever so slightly. ME's left ankle continues to be the challenge.

Caitlin, Dayton and Paul were here over the weekend. The Allens for a long day on Saturday and Paul overnight until Sunday afternoon. It was just plain great! MaryEleanor spent a good four hours in the kitchen/family room mid day with everyone. After a little break she was back with everyone again until Caitlin and Dayton headed west around 7PM. Laughter and loud voices filled the house. Everyone, included ME, enjoyed a dinner of BBQ'd chicken, corn on the cob and some decadent smashed potatoes.

On Sunday, Paul and I took turns spending time with ME. Paul was a huge help with getting many things checked off the list of outside chores. It's always tough to see the kids leave. We are very grateful for their visits. We really do feel blessed that we did it right with them and have raised two wonderful, caring, motivated and engaging individuals.

Today we popped over to the Browns for a quick visit with family and friends. It was the perfect way to wrap up a great weekend.
